Beer and Steak
Following on from a successful stall at clockenflap last year, we couldn’t resist running one at this year’s Beertopia festival. The international beer festival moved this year from Sheung Wan to the bigger outdoor site at West Kowloon Cultural district, and increased their selection of ales and brews from 90 to over 200 varieties.
We spent days preparing; frying onions and trimming organic steak, all the while nervously watching the rain and black clouds blanketing Hong Kong, praying it wouldn’t be a wash out.
I was particularly looking forwards to trying the authentic French baguettes of a new French bakery, Bread Elements; having visited their impressive kitchen at our end of town, in Chai Wan.
When the day came, the clouds parted and Hong Kong had it’s first glorious day of 2013. We sold out in around 3 hours for each of the 2 sessions, selling nearly 1000 steak and onion sandwiches in a very enjoyable day. The bread was outstanding, and our new baker friends even managed to help us out after we sold all of our days bread in a few hours.
